Suga is ready to meet with Kim Jong-un without preconditions

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced his readiness to meet with DPRK head Kim Jong-un without preconditions. He stated this on September 25 during a speech at the general political debate of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. As the new prime minister of Japan, I am ready to meet with Chairman Kim Jong-un without any preconditions, Suga said. The new head of government of Japan stressed that he would not miss a single opportunity to establish constructive bilateral relations, important not only for the interests of Japan, but also for strengthening peace and stability in the region. And he is determined to fully normalize relations with the DPRK to resolve issues of the sad past, including the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korean intelligence, as well as to solve the problem of the DPRK nuclear missile program. According to the news agency, Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide and UN Secretary General António Guterres held telephone conversations on a number of global issues on September 24. Among others, the problem of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korean agents in the 1970s and 1980s was discussed. Guterres expressed readiness to help Suga, and also emphasized the importance of joint work on nuclear disarmament of North Korea.
