In China, shipments of smartphones with support for 5G have increased

Every third smartphone delivered in China in the second quarter of this year was equipped with a fifth-generation mobile modem 5G. This is evidenced by a report by the research company Counterpoint Research. Shipments of smartphones in China, as well as around the world, decreased in the first quarter of 2020 due to the consequences of the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection. According to Counterpoint Research experts, the smartphone market in China began to recover in the second quarter during this period, 9% more smartphones were delivered than in the first quarter of 2020. It is noted that the overall decrease in the supply of smartphones did not prevent the growth in the distribution of devices with support for 5G. While in the first quarter, smartphones with fifth-generation mobile support accounted for about 16%, in the second quarter this figure rose to 33%. We add that in May, another research company Gartner predicted that in 2020, smartphones with 5G support will account for about 11% of the total global supply. As previously reported by the news agency, in July, the Ministry of Industry and Informatization of China announced that by the end of the first half of 2020, the total number of 5G base stations in China was brought to 410 thousand.
