The number of downloads of the Android Auto app exceeded half a billion


The app for motorists Android Auto from the American company Google was downloaded more than 500 thousand times as of the end of June. It is reported by the portal 9to5google. Google released the Android Auto app in 2015. This program is used to synchronize a smartphone running the Android operating system with on-board computers of cars produced by the Open Automotive Alliance. This association includes Audi, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Fiat, Ford, Kia, Jeep, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Opel SEAT, Volkswagen, Volvo and other companies. The growth in popularity of this application is explained not only by the release of new car models with support for this function, but also by a change in policy by the GMS service. In accordance with the new rules, the Android Auto application is pre-installed on all smartphones shipped with the Android 10 operating system. As previously reported by the news agency, in December 2019 a list of the most popular mobile applications of the past ten years was presented. The first four places were taken by services owned by Facebook: the social network Instagram (2.7 billion downloads), the messenger WhatsApp (4.3 billion), Facebook Messenger (4.4 billion) and the social network Facebook itself (4.6 billion).
