In Tajikistan, wholesale and retail trade is declining


For five months of 2020, the turnover of wholesale and retail trade in Tajikistan amounted to over 12.2 billion somoni ($1.1 billion), which is 1.8% less compared to the same period in 2019, the Ministry of Economic Development of the country reports. Products worth more than 4.3 billion somoni ($417.4 million) were sold in food, substance and mixed markets during the reporting period, which is almost half of the total retail turnover. At the same time, in January-May 2020, the profit from the sale of trucks and cars amounted to 229.3 somoni (22.2 million dollars), animals 993.8 million somoni (96.4 million dollars), petroleum products about 2 billion somoni (194 million dollars). The share of food products in the total volume of trade is more than 5 billion somoni (485 million dollars) or 49.1%, non-food more than 5.2 billion somoni (504.7 million dollars) or 50.9%. In the percentage ratio, the food group is dominated by meat and sausages 15.4%, sugar and confectionery 6.8%, flour and bread, vegetables, vegetable oil 12.5%, 6.1% and 5.1%, respectively. Among the goods of the non-food group, the largest share falls on oil products, fabric, knitwear, building materials, shoes, electric goods. During this period, the volume of retail turnover per Tajik averaged 1 thousand 99 somoni, which is equivalent to 1 thousand 339 rubles.
