Russia's military vessel entered Australian port for the first time in three decades

The hydrographic ship of the Pacific Fleet of Russia Marshall Gelovani entered the Australian port of Townsville to replenish supplies of food, water and fuel, the press service of the fleet reported on April 26. This visit was the first Russian military vessel to enter an Australian port in three decades, the report said. It is noted that Marshall Gelovani takes part in a long campaign in honor of the 200th anniversary of the opening of Antarctica and the 250th anniversary of the birth of Russian admiral and sailor Ivan Krusenstern. The round-the-world expedition of the Russian Navy began in December 2019. It will last until June 2020. The crew of the ship crossed more than 10,000 nautical miles, was engaged in clarification of coordinates of the South Magnetic Pole of the planet.
