Japanese Prime Minister plans telephone conversation with Putin

A telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin was planned by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in connection with his resignation. This was reported on August 31 by Kyodo. According to the agency, Abe intends to personally inform the Russian leader of his resignation from the post of head of the Japanese government. The possibility of a telephone conversation with Putin is currently under negotiation. Earlier, Abe had already held telephone conversations with US President Donald Trump. As the Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan Yoshihide Suga specified, the leaders of the two countries discussed the situation with the coronavirus pandemic and the problem of abducted Japanese citizens. Abe also explained to the American leader the reason for his resignation and thanked him for many years of cooperation. Earlier, the news agency reported on candidates for the post of prime minister of Japan, who could succeed Abe after his resignation.
